Personal preferences and freedom of choice are highly respected at GlenView and GlenBrook. Room décor may be enhanced with mementos, pictures and perhaps small furniture in the skilled care area. Residents in our nursing Memory Support Unit furnish apartments with their own décor. This freedom to decorate allows the residents to continue their individuality. Common areas encourage an upbeat spirit by infusing warm colors with outdoor light and comfortable furniture.
The special programs and residential environments we offer are designed to enhance the lives of our residents with dementia. Every day is filled with comfortable memories and pleasant experiences. Our staff realize the effort and commitment necessary to maintain the highest level of resident satisfaction. Specialized training programs allow staff members to continuously learn new skills and to be informed about the most current research. This understanding and knowledge means better care for your loved one whether in our Memory Support Unit in GlenView Assisted Living or our Skilled Nursing unit of GlenBrook.
Assisted Living Memory Support Care
The Gardens, our Memory Support Unit in GlenView Assisted Living, is designed for residents suffering from any form of memory loss, including Alzheimer's Disease. Whether it's "working" in the study, making jewelry, painting, or planting colorful flowers in the garden, residents are encouraged to engage in activities they find enjoyable. The apartments and specially designed activity areas have been created to enhance the residents' lives. We minimize anxiety and frustration and maximize their enjoyment. It is a secure, safe and orderly environment.
We created a family-style dining venue where residents eat together and are offered a varied and appetizing menu. Staff attend to less focused residents to assist with their meals while encouraging good nutrition. Colorful dishes atop soft-hued tablecloths invite the residents into a wonderful dining experience, reminiscent of their home. Since appropriate nutritional intake is vital for good health and well-being, we have designed the unit with lots of warm color and light. These aspects play an important role in one's psyche as well as stimulate the palate. Residents thrive in these surrounding. A sense of calm and serenity abound. Families feel positive about coming into our unit and may participate as much as they desire. They become our partner in the care and well-being of their loved one, essential for the entire package of health, mood, and stimulation.
Skilled Nursing Dementia Care
GlenBrook Skilled Nursing has created a unique environment filled with friendly encouragement and specialized care in order to meet individual needs of our patients in advanced stages of Alzheimer's and dementia. The RN's, LVN's, and Certified Nursing Assistants at GlenBrook receive additional training in order to assist these patients and their families with medical and non-medical needs. They realize the importance of smiles galore! Having personalized conversations with our patients is imperative to keeping them in the moment. We treat each individual with respect and dignity. We never forget that even though the patient may not be able to respond appropriately, we need to engage them as if they are able to respond. Dementia of any kind can put a patient into a different time zone, and our staff understands completely. Compassion and a soft touch on the arm go very far in the daily engagement of our patients. Visitations of families and friends are encouraged, families may participate in activities. Meals are offered for a modest price. We believe in the entire package of patient AND family. We are here for them as well by offering support groups and social services.
